Multi-Check Confirmation
Verify from multiple locations before triggering an alert.
A network problem between a monitoring point and your server can trigger a false alert. Your site works perfectly, but our Paris server temporarily can't reach it.
Multi-check confirmation solves this problem: before alerting, MoniTao verifies from multiple geographic locations. If all confirm the problem, the alert is legitimate.
How Multi-Check Works
- Initial check: The first check fails from the primary location.
- Secondary verifications: MoniTao immediately launches checks from 2-3 other locations.
- Consensus: If the majority of locations confirm the failure, the alert is triggered.
Benefits
- Fewer false positives: Eliminates alerts due to local routing problems.
- Confidence: When an alert arrives, you know it's globally confirmed.
- Geographic perspective: Detect if a problem affects all regions or only certain ones.
Configuration
- Number of locations: Choose how many locations must confirm (2, 3 or more).
- Preferred locations: Select the most relevant regions for your audience.
- Consensus threshold: Define if all or a majority of locations must confirm.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does multi-check slow down alerts?
By just a few seconds. Secondary checks are launched in parallel.
What locations are available?
MoniTao has monitoring points in Europe, America and Asia.
Can I combine multi-check and double verification?
These are two names for the same feature. Configure the desired number of confirmations.
Does multi-check work for heartbeats?
Heartbeats don't use multi-check because they're initiated by your server, not by MoniTao.
